W4 ~ The one's I've got work on SD card which can be set at 2mns or 15mns before it starts to rewrite.
Mine are set at 15mns

In the event of an accident/incident you can simply take the SD out & replace it before you carry on driving or turn the camera off. The incident can be downloaded to pc off the SD or the camera direct (The picture quality is remarkably good)

I think you can get more expensive cameras that can stream, but the way I look at it is if the camera gets nicked or packs in, it's only going to cost us 15 (+6 for SD)

As far as expensive cars being nicked I found out something by chance

One morning, only of our 3 cars would respond to the wireless controlled key fob

It took me a while to work out what was happening, It turned out that our door bell, which was also wireless controlled, was jammed on. The bell wasn't ringing since the batteries had long since gone flat

The signal from the door bell push was jamming the signal from the car remote keys

It got me thinking. It would not be a big step for a car thief, with his wits about him, to go round jamming wireless key remotes to posh cars, then go back & take them when the owner left (The owner assuming that the car was locked)

w4 - if they nick your motor, the camera goes with it.

Not if he nicks the car. Or doesn't open the glove compartment.

Re: Dash Cams
might be a reason to get one...

Detectives are investigating a new surge in the number of “keyless” luxury car thefts in London’s most exclusive areas.

Hundreds of top of the range cars including Range Rovers, BMWs and Audis are being taken by gangs using a hand-held high tech device that bypasses security systems.

In one street alone in Chelsea, four luxury vehicles, including three Range Rovers, have been stolen in recent weeks, according to residents.

The theft of one £85,000 car was caught on CCTV with images showing the criminal casually clicking open the lock systems before climbing inside and driving slowly away.

In one case, a car stolen from Ormonde Gate near the Chelsea Royal Hospital, activated its internal tracking system and was traced to a scrapyard in Kingston.

Another victim in the street received a replacement car through their insurers - only to have it stolen a week later.

You may be right, but imagine someone breaks into my car and opens the glove compartment. I'll have his picture.
Simples.

Re: Dash Cams
Missus was reversing out a parking space the other day. Bloke shot round the row of cars doing about 40 and she caught him on the drivers side - not much she could have done, he was going so quick. But as the damage is on the rear if our car and the side if his, insurance are pointing the finger at the missus.

Its not all about being scammed. Nobody admits guilt in an RTA. Having it on video should settle any arguements.

It seems overly paranoid to go out and buy a camera in case you get scammed but then I don't live in an ethnically diverse area

Re: Dash Cams
I bought one off Ebay for about 15 (another 6 for a SD card at Asda) after a mate recommended it
That was nearly a year ago & still working
Since then I've bought about 5 off the same dealer & put tem in my other car, wifes car & sisters car
There are so many insurance scams going on these days
Preventing one scam would be worth the cost of what I've spent out in cameras & gives peace of mind
One day all new cars will have them fitted as standard

We got roadhawk cameras fitted in our trucks , front and rear n/s and o/s.
Your insurance company will recommend a maker for you failing that they start at about £15 on amazon.

Honest Hammer

Arce probably tries to pull off these scam crashes judging by his view of the cameras.
